South Brent Folk presents the 6th annual South Brent Folk Day with singing, music, workshops, pub sessions, busking (including Nigel Roberts on his Hurdy Gurdy) and food by 'Crumbs and Cuppa'.

'Dartmoor Tradition' - Step Dancing and Broom Dancing in the Old School Car Park with former Dartmoor champion (1984; 1985; 2007; 2013),  Lisa Sture and melodeon from 10.30am-12noon and again from 2.15-3.15pm 

Stalls in the car park including a Tombola in aid of South Brent & District Caring

A Punch and Judy show in the Car Park at 12.00 and 1.30pm: “Traditional entertainment, for all the family. Join cheeky Mr Punch as he squabbles, fights, and outwits a host of weird and wonderful characters, including Judy and PC Peeler. Our resident Victorian Showman Billy Budkins will delight the young and the old in this vibrant retelling of some classic tales. Warning: there may be some violence …. and a crocodile!”

Workshops in the Old School Community Centre:

  • 11.15am-12.15pm - 'Sing with Strings' - song accompaniment workshop with Pete Coe
  • 12.30-1.30pm - Finger Puppet making workshop for children with Sue Astal-Stain of Cosy Corner Crafts
  • 2.15-3.15pm - Shanty workshop with Flash Jack

Evening Folk Concert at 7.30pm (with Reel Ale bar) in the Village Hall with

  • Pete Coe is a singer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist (melodeon, banjo, dulcimer, guitar, mandolin, bouzouki), step dancer and dance caller. Now in his 46th year as a professional folk musician he has been described as 'One Man Folk Industry'! See: petecoe.co.uk/
  • Flash Jack is a shanty crew from Plymouth and Cornwall. The nine members comprise previous members of the late lamented shanty crew 'Hanging Johnny' and other well respected singers & musicians. Their repertoire includes old & new shanties & ballads, songs from a woman’s perspective, tunes associated with the coast and seafaring (both at home & abroad) & songs from the land reflecting the link between songs from coastal districts & those sung by seafarers.   • Emily Roblyn is a singer songwriter who writes and sings songs from the heart with a voice which has been described as 'pure nectar'. Emily lives in South Brent, where she leads 'Wild Harmony' as well as the Exeter based Spectrum Choir and Rowcroft Hospice Choir. See www.emilysinging.com/
